Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Do you provide the motorcycles?
A. Yes, we provide brand new Buell® Blast® motorcycles. They are 492 cc and weigh only 350 pounds. It's a great beginner bike.
Q. How does the Rider's Edge course compare to a regular Motorcycle Safety Foundation course?
A. Rider's Edge is a MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) approved course. We use much of the same curriculum. Our students have said they feel the main difference is we offer more one on one personal training. We take time to help our students confidence grow during class.
Q. Am I required to take a safety course in order to receive my motorcycle endorsement?
A. This course is the first step to getting your motorcycle license. As of 9/1/2009 there is a state requirement for all applicants for a motorcycle license, or endorsement on a regular or commercial driver’s license, to provide proof of successful completion of an approved basic motorcycle operator training course, such as that offered by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF).
Q. How long is the Rider's Edge Basic Rider Course?
A. Only 24 hours* spread over two nights and two days on a weekend. Not so quick you don't have time to learn all of the basics, but not so long you find yourself bored.Hours vary depending on class size.
Q. I'm already a rider. Do I have to take the basic rider training course or can I just take the skilled course?
A. Per state law, you have to take a basic rider course to qualify for your motorcycle license. That said, our past graduate students have been novice to expert riders. All students learn from our course no matter what experience level.
Q. Do you offer any course specials or discounts?
A. We take pride in the value of our course and our instructors and feel you will find it's worth every cent. Harley-Davidson Motor Company does offer a $50 gift certificate when you pass the course and purchase a Harley-Davidson.
Q. Do I get a lower insurance rate on my motorcycle by taking the class?
A. Most insurance companies do give a discount to a motorcyclist who has completed a motorcycle safety course. You should check with your insurance company to be sure this would apply to you.
Q. Will I get my motorcycle license right away?
A. You will need to take a written test at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Upon completion of the Rider's Edge® course, you will receive a certificate that waives the need to take the road test at the DMV.
Q. How many students are in a class? How many instructors teach the class?
A. When the class is full, there are twelve students in the class. There is one instructor for every 6 students.
